New talk about cloud computing

I had the pleasure to be invited again by itSMF this year to their summer course to talk about cloud computing (what else?).
As usual it was a great experience and the opportunity to meet again with some good friends.

I showed my view on how IaaS is becoming less and less important for big companies and how those clients prefer to contract SaaS if there's something available so they don't have to deal with hardware complexity, even if it's in the cloud.
Another important idea of my speech was about avoiding the trap of private cloud, you can try to improve your existing infrastructure use as much as possible, but, to me, it has no sense to buy new hardware to create your internal cloud.

What a surprise, right?

Well, clearly Cloud Computing is the topic with most Hype right now, it's like SOA four or five years ago.

I'll be talking in a Cloud event on the 18th of May. I'll tell you how it goes.

I'm one of the first ones to talk along the day, I don't think that most of the hardware vendors will like what I have to say about private clouds, hybrid clouds and public clouds, so we will see what happens and if I survive.

Another (long) video talking about cloud computing

I already commented that I participated in a summer course in 2010 at the UPM university organized by itSMF. I talked about cloud computing and what my company is doing in that area.

In case you wander why I'm not wearing a tie and a suit, it was a very informal set up.

The speech is in Spanish, as the slides that I was using, and it's a long one, with some questions at the end so it runs longer than one hour.

The last Cloud Computing conference (of 2010)

This afternoon I had the opportunity (again!) of giving a speech about Cloud Computing.
It's mainly the same presentation that I've done several times, this time at a two days event more focussed on virtualization and cloud computing organized by Marcus Evans

itSMF Congress round table

I was part of the "CIOs" round table at the end of the itSMF two days congress last week in Madrid (15 and 16 of November).

Another talk about Cloud Computing

I was invited by ASM to give a speech about Cloud Computing at their third CIO Summitt. I think it was well received by the audience, but we'll see when I receive the feedback results.

I already gave a speech at the second CIO Summitt on 2008, mainly about SOA and how to allow external access to company provided services.

itSMF Summer Course, talking about Cloud Computing (what else?)

From the 5th to the 9th of July itSMF has organized a summer course (Agenda and presentations) at UPM Computer Engineering School where I was giving a speech about Cloud Computing.

I decided to attend the course, mainly focussed on IT Governance, because I'm not an expert on those areas. My feeling is that Governance and, more specifically, Service Management will become increasingly important as we move to cloud models. Things like ITIL certification, ISO 20000 knowledge and many others like this will be the main skills that IT professionals will need in the future.

Another Cloud Computing conference

On May 27th I was invited to talk about Cloud Computing on an IDC event.
Somebody from IDC was in the conference that I gave at the CioNet event on April and they were so kind to invite me to this one.
It was a very "dense" agenda, with more than 20 speakers. It was funny because they told me that I should do my presentation in 20 minutes and I said: no way! If you just have 20 minutes for me you better look for somebody else. Finally they gave me 30 minutes and I used almost 40 (as usual) but I think people was happy with what I had to tell them.

IDC made a great work with the logistics and the organization and less than one week after I had the feedback of my speech. I'm very happy as my presentation was considered the best one and I appear as the second best speaker. Thanks to everybody for the rating!!

To be or not to be cloud

I gave a speech about the use of cloud computing in Lilly on the 22nd of April as part of a bigger event organized by CIONet. This is a reference to that speech.
It's in Spanish but all of you know how to use the Google language tools, right?

Cloud Computing conference

I gave a speech about Cloud Computing at an event organized by CionNet the other day.

CioNet is a online community of CIOs or senior managers of IT and they organize interesting events like this one where they were so kind to invite me.

I just can say thank you by the feedback that I got from my presentation.
